After reporting and writing about my friend Laura these last few weeks, I have found myself becoming more and more intrigued with the Islamic movement in the United States. For my explanatory narrative, I am proposing to write a piece on the increasing popularity of this religion among young people in the United States. By doing online research, speaking with Professor Anderson of the Religion Department, and talking to Muslim students here at Kalamazoo College, I plan to look at the root reasons for an increased interest in Islam in a post 9/11 climate.
Some questions I hope to address are:
1) Why has youth interest in Islam increased?
2) What factors play a central role in its growing popularity?
3) Who are the primary converts?
4) How has 9/11 changed Muslim/American relations in the U.S.?
